Gig Review - 10/9/00 - Little Civic, Wolverhampton

Straw Tour Diary (from official site):

Very early start from Glasgow with a stopover at a misty service station in Kendal. Duck got his hand on some Kendal Mint Cake which cheered him up before he fell asleep again on the floor of the bus which is getting a bit unsavoury now - lots of crushed nuts and grass lying about. Usually I'm a bit of a reader while Andy sits there playing Nintendo for hours so there can't be anything wrong with his hand really!
Got to Wolves and John, our tour manager, had the brainwave of going for a Sunday pub lunch, the full works. First hot meal we'd had in ages - rather than shit service station stuff and buffets.
Mattie and Duck went to do a radio session but Andy and I got to sit around instead, eating cake till they came back.
The gig itself was a sell out which was great. Lots of people, with the crowd right up at the front. Best bit was Duck getting up on stage and falling over, thought he claims to have done it on purpose. Looked like he was in Norman Wisdom mode but he's definitely got a fan club up there - there were a group of girls standing at the side of stage just staring at him and shouting "I love you!"
Had to drive back to London so just had a few beers backstage with the fans - probably the most signing we've done after a gig so far, so I think we're big in Wolverhampton. It was Duck's birthday the next day so we stopped in a service station at midnight and whipped out a bottle of champagne that we drank by the petrol pumps. Quite a surreal moment.
