Gig Review - 13/9/00 - Wedgewood Rooms, Portsmouth

Straw Tour Diary (from official site):

Had a weird drive down to Portsmouth on Wednesday afternoon - absolutely no cars around 'cause of the petrol thing which was kind of eerie. Managed to swing a bit of time to all hang out and watch the Man U match. I'm a Chelsea fan but I'll support Man U in Europe. I loved Vialli but hopefully we'll get El Tel. He's completely fantastic, like an EastEnders character.
Went on stage about ten. Portsmouth's a really, really good venue and always one of our favourites to play at 'cause we've got quite a few groupies down there. Knowing there are people who've come back just to see you gives you an extra buzz.
We've been making changes every night of the tour to get the show as tight as possible, but it's getting to the point now where it's pretty good and we came together really well. It really mattered to us to put on a great show before the London gig if only to ease the pressure. Judging by how many people were jumping up and down and going wild, we did alright.
Treated ourselves to an after-show kick-about in the venue. We're all quite football obsessed apart from Duck who was brought up on things like hockey and lacrosse but I've got him into it as much as I can. The four of us have been running a 'keepy-up' competition where you can't let the ball touch the floor and our record's 78 which can't be bad. Plenty more time to break the record on the Toploader tour though.
