Straw Tour Diary (from official site):
Mattie at Roadhouse, Manchester
Long drive up from London but on the way up heard that we'd got the Toploader support slot next month. We knew it was on the cards but getting it confirmed was all quite exciting. Looks like we're going to be crazily busy next month.
Met up with the support band called Titan. They're a Mexican lounge breakbeat band who are really good and very funny. It's about as far-reaching and different a support band as you can get!
Had a brief chance to poke around Manchester. There's a brilliant emporium full of weird and wonderful 60s and 70s magazines and records so we hung out in there, rummaging through stuff for a while.
We've played the Roadhouse a couple of times before but we were still chuffed by the turnout. It was hotter than the hottest sauna you've ever been in - I think we all lost about a stone in weight - but we went down really well. All good fun, especially 'cause the audience seemed really keen on the new stuff like "In And Out" and "Pop Music" which are turning out to be live favourites. Expected people to prefer the old songs 'cause they've got the album and just put up with the new ones so it was pretty encouraging. A good little gig.
Andy had his hand taped up after really smashing it the night before - he was in a fair bit of discomfort but he played through it, like you do with a football injury. We put the magic sponge on him.
Stayed in a great hotel with jacuzzis and swimming pool. We all got in the sauna and got boiling hot - felt a bit peculiar but really glam, like a proper band! A real treat not to have to spend five hours on the motorway. We're all feeling really up now. There's a real sense of optimism that whatever happens, we're going to have a fantastic six months 'cause we love hanging out and doing this stuff.
Mattie
